VOCAL is a non-profit organisation which provides assistance to victims of crime in Canberra, Queanbeyan and region.
VOCAL (ACT) has been providing support for victims of crime since 1988. It was founded by eight survivors who, through their own traumatic experience, understand the plights of victims of crime (victims supporting victims).
Today this service is self-funded and relies on donations and/or fundraising events for financial support. VOCAL is managed voluntarily, by an independent management committee. VOCAL has trained volunteers who are closely supervised to provide victims with ongoing support and practical help.
VOCAL provides practical assistance as needed in various ways, these services include:
VOCAL also provides a training and support service for volunteer workers.
Volunteers can benefit by getting relevant work experience in the office, at the court and working with clients in house. After a period of time they can also get a reference for future employment.
